Baker Brothers are proud to present a selection of pieces from the collection of Her Royal Highness The Princess Margaret Countess of Snowdon.

These stunning items were purchased in June 2006 and come with Official Certification from Kensington Palace.

The youngest daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and the sister of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, CI, GCVO, CD (Margaret Rose; 21 August 1930 – 9 February 2002) was regarded as a fashion icon.

Famed for her beauty and dramatic sartorial statements, Princess Margaret was THE fashion icon of the late '40s and into the '50s. She tore up the royal rule book in the 50's and - as claimed by Picture Post at the time - ‘what she wears is news.’

We'd like to encourage anyone interested in purchasing a piece of iconic Royal history to make an enquiry so that you can arrange to view the collection with one of our specialists. Each piece has a Certificate of Authenticity from Kensington Palace.

PRINCESS MARGARET'S SAPPHIRE AND WHEAT BROOCH

This sapphire and diamond wheat brooch is designed by Birks as an ear of wheat. The stalk is set with a circular-cut sapphire and brilliant-cut diamond. The item is 6cm long.

Princess Margaret embarked on an extensive tour of Canada in 1958, spending 31 days criss-crossing the country. She was the recipient of many gifts. One of the gifts presented to her was was the Ear of Wheat gold brooch from the Government of Saskatchewan.

The Medicine Hat News (28 July 1958) reported at the time:

"Mr. Lee let me have a peek at the presentation gift the Saskatchewan people will make to Princess Margaret. Its(sic) a brooch, the main portion of which is a gold replica of a head of wheat. At the base is a matched pair of stones, a one carat diamond and a one carat emerald."

The reporter erred in describing the second stone as an emerald, as it clearly is a sapphire as was listed in the original sale of Princess Margaret's jewellery.

PRINCESS MARGARET'S DIAMOND AND EMERALD HEATHER BROOCH

This diamond and emerald heather brooch features a spray of brilliant-cut diamonds across the heather to the calibre-cut emerald stem which is 6.2cm in length. It comes with it's original fitted red leather Collingwood (Jewellers) LTD. case, the lid with applied plaque engraved 'R.M.S Edinburgh Castle Oct. 16th 1947'.

Built by Harland and Wolff of Belfast, the R.M.S Royal Mail Ship Edinburgh Castle was launched by H.R.H. The Princess Margaret on 16th October 1947. The R.M.S. Edinburgh Castle was the third Union Castle vessel, employed for the South African route, to bear this name. The first R.M.S. Edinburgh Castle was one of the earliest steamships ordered for the South African service and the second was launched from Harland and Wolff's in 1910. The launch of the third Edinburgh Castle by H.R.H. The Princess Margaret was the Princess' first important solo engagement, an occasion marked by the presentation of this gem-set spray of Scottish heather.

Thanking the builders and owners for their gift, H.R.H. The Princess Margaret replied "To christen this ship Edinburgh Castle gives me great pleasure, for it will ever be linked in my mind with that lovely city for which my affection has grown with each visit. I am also particularly pleased to think that this fine ship will eventually sail between the British Isles and South Africa. It was to South Africa that I made my first voyage earlier this year, and with many happy memories of that great country I am glad to launch a ship designed to increase the traffic and strengthen the bonds between the Union and the Mother Country"
